Mattel's first-ever Diwali Barbie doll, created in partnership with Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre, has returned to inventory following its initial sell-out in 2024. The limited-edition collectible is now available online in time for the upcoming Festival of Lights, which takes place from November 6 to November 10, 2026, with the main celebration occurring on November 8.

The doll commemorates Diwali, a major Hindu festival known globally as the "Festival of Lights," a term that translates to "row of lights" in Hindi. According to a press release, the figure is dressed in a festive Moonlight Bloom ensemble consisting of a choli top, a floral Koti vest, and a lehenga skirt decorated with dahlias, jasmine, and Indian lotus flowers. These floral elements are said to symbolize strength and beauty, while the doll is accessorized with golden bangles and shimmering earrings.

Although the Barbie Diwali doll originally retailed for approximately $40, it has since become a sought-after collector's item. Consequently, major retailers such as Amazon and Walmart have adjusted their prices upward to reflect its scarcity. Mattel has not produced another Diwali-themed doll since this initial release, making the current stock particularly rare for enthusiasts looking to add the piece to their collections.

Upon the doll's original launch, Dongre stated that the collaboration aimed to encourage fans worldwide to celebrate Indian fashion and culture. She noted that her brand's mission to empower through fashion aligned perfectly with Barbie as a symbol of women's empowerment. Mattel describes the product as a celebration of diversity designed to reflect the world children see today, offering endless possibilities for storytelling and fashion exploration.
