Bob Dylan met Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Wednesday. Vatican News reported that the two exchanged greetings and a few lighthearted remarks during the brief meeting.
Dylan gave the pope a copy of his memoir, “Chronicles: Volume One,” and received a rosary in return.
The meeting followed Pope Leo’s use, a few months earlier, of lyrics from Dylan’s unreleased 1963 song “Go Away You Bomb” in a warning about global rearmament and the threat of nuclear weapons use. It was Dylan’s second meeting with a pope: in 1997, he performed a selection of songs for John Paul II.
