Cher appears unfazed by Michael Douglas’s recent comments about her Best Actress Oscar for Moonstruck. In an email to Entertainment Weekly, a representative for the singer and actress reportedly replied: “Cher adores Michael Douglas.”
Douglas questioned Cher’s win during an appearance with his Fatal Attraction co-star Glenn Close on The Graham Norton Show on Oct. 30. “She should have won with Fatal Attraction,” he said, referring to Close’s performance as Alex Forrest in the 1987 thriller. Close, 79, received an Oscar nomination for the role, following nominations for The World According to Garp, The Big Chill and The Natural.
Cher won the award for Moonstruck at the 1988 ceremony, where Douglas took home the Best Actor Oscar for Wall Street. After Norton expressed surprise at Cher’s win, Douglas replied, “I know, that’s what we all said.” Close playfully told him, “Michael, be kind!” before he described her performance as “one of the greatest performances of all time.”
Cher was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Silkwood and won Golden Globes for her performances in both Silkwood and Moonstruck. Close is set to receive an Academy Honorary Award at the Nov. 15 Governors Awards, after eight Oscar nominations without a competitive win.
