Dacia Maraini will receive the 2026 Tonino Guerra Award during a two-day program in Rimini on November 6 and 7. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at Cinema Fulgor.

The award, chaired by Laura Delli Colli, was established by Andrea Guerra and the board of the Tonino Guerra Study Centre and Museum. It precedes the seventh Luoghi dell’Anima Festival, which is due to run in Rimini from December 9 to 13, 2026, under the artistic direction of Steve Della Casa and Paola Poli.

Maraini’s work spans fiction, essays, poetry, theatre and cinema. She turns 90 on November 13. Andrea Guerra said her voice also offers valuable testimony in discussions about Tonino Guerra’s poetic and human legacy, a theme that informs the award. Previous recipients include Luis Sepúlveda, Carmen Yáñez, and directors Marco Tullio Giordana, Werner Herzog and Aleksandr Sokurov.

The program opens on November 6 at 9:30 p.m. at Fulgor’s Sala Giulietta with a screening of Carlo Di Palma’s 1973 film Teresa la ladra, starring Monica Vitti and based on Maraini’s novel Memorie di una ladra. Laura Delli Colli and Raffaele Milani will introduce and curate the event.

At 5 p.m. on November 7, Fulgor’s Sala Federico will screen Dacia Vita mia - dialoghi Giapponesi, a documentary by Izumi Chiaraluce, who will attend. Co-produced and distributed by Luce Cinecittà, the film follows the Maraini family’s memories and revisits a fragment of collective history.

The award program will continue through November with events in Santarcangelo and Pennabilli, places associated with the poet Tonino Guerra.
