Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan has provided an update after a medical emergency in Leipzig, confirming that the band has postponed the remainder of its UK and European tour on medical advice.
In a statement shared on Deep Purple’s social media accounts, Gillan thanked fans for their support and said he had hoped to receive medical clearance to complete the tour. However, he said continuing would involve “very serious risks.”
“On the advice of my medical team and management we have made the decision to postpone the rest of the European/UK tour until further notice,” Gillan wrote, adding that the decision was made in everyone’s best interest and apologizing for the inconvenience.
Deep Purple first announced Gillan’s hospitalization on Saturday, initially postponing two shows in Germany. The tour had been scheduled to continue through a November 24 concert in London, but all remaining dates have now been postponed.
