After four weeks in cinemas, Emmanuel Marre’s “Notre Salut” has surpassed 700,000 admissions. In a video for Le Monde, the director examines how he constructed the film’s opening scene and the details that reveal the personality of its central character.
Marre describes giving a character a small flaw to make them more sympathetic, such as lying or taking food. He also explains how the scene introduces the challenges of the bleak period the character is experiencing.
The video is the second installment in Le Monde’s “Premier plan” series, in which a director discusses the opening scene of their film.
