'Feito Pipa' opens in cinemas across São Paulo this Thursday, representing Brazil in the race for a place at the 2027 Oscars. Directed by Allan Deberton, the 2026 drama stars Yuri Gomes, Lázaro Ramos and Teca Pereira and runs for 93 minutes.

The story follows Gugu, who is nearing his 12th birthday and shares a close bond with his grandmother, Dilma, a retired teacher who encourages him to be himself. His relationship with his father is more difficult. When Dilma develops health problems that separate her from Gugu, he moves into his father's home. The film won the Crystal Bear and the International Jury Grand Prix in the Generation Kplus section at the Berlin Film Festival.

Other new releases in São Paulo include 'Ana, en Passant,' a Brazilian-French-Portuguese drama about a young woman grieving her grandmother and reconnecting with her ancestry in Belo Horizonte, and 'Assalto à Brasileira,' based on a 1987 bank robbery in Londrina in which more than 300 people were held hostage.

The week's international releases include Martin McDonagh's 'Wild Horse Nine,' about two longtime CIA partners sent to Easter Island shortly before Chile's 1973 coup, and 'Godzilla Minus Zero,' set in Japan in 1949 as the country rebuilds after World War II. Taika Waititi's 'Klara and the Sun,' adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro's novel, follows an observant android waiting to be purchased as a companion for a chronically ill teenager.

The lineup also features the comedy 'Os Farofeiros 3,' the animated film 'The Cat in the Hat,' the concert film 'George Michael: the Faith Tour,' and 'Gustavo Mioto em ‘Inconfundível Tour’,' which brings the Brazilian singer's show and behind-the-scenes footage to cinemas. Brazilian drama 'Vicentina Pede Desculpas' follows a mother who seeks forgiveness from the families of the victims of a fatal bus crash caused intentionally by her son.
