Fiorello opened La Pennicanza by celebrating Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who became Formula 1 world champion in Mexico the previous day. The presenter recalled that the programme had interviewed the Italian driver early in his career, joking about having done so before Fabio Fazio.

Fiorello also referred to messages of congratulations for Antonelli from Valentino Rossi and Vasco Rossi. He then joked that actress and singer Serena Rossi, as well as Rai managing director Giampaolo Rossi, had been overlooked, before showing Serena Rossi’s video message and calling the Rai executive live on air.

During the conversation, Giampaolo Rossi said Rai was very proud of Antonelli and responded positively when Fiorello suggested the idea of broadcasting a Grand Prix on the network. Rossi also said preparations for Sanremo were progressing well and described the upcoming edition as a major one. Asked about Amadeus, he called him a great professional.

The programme’s main surprise was the unexpected arrival of Diego Abatantuono in the studio. Alongside Fiorello, he remembered Gigi Proietti, with the two paying tribute to the late actor and performer to the song “Nun je da retta da Roma”. Fiorello described Proietti as a great figure and said that anyone working in the profession owes him something.
