Interpol have announced an intimate London show to replace their cancelled co-headline dates with Bloc Party at Olympia. The band will perform alone at the 3,800-capacity British Airways Arc at Olympia on Friday, December 4.
The original tour was scheduled to conclude with two shows at the 7,000-capacity Grand Hall at London’s Olympia on December 4 and 5. Those dates, along with other events involving Jamie T and Royal Blood, were moved or cancelled because of “unforeseen planning issues” at the venue.
In a statement, Interpol said they were disappointed that circumstances beyond their control prevented the planned performances. The band described the replacement date as a chance to celebrate their eighth album, ‘This Mirror Weighs A Ton’, with London fans before continuing to tour in 2027.
Tickets for the new show will go on pre-sale at 9am on Thursday, November 5, with general sale beginning at 9am on Friday, November 6.
Interpol and Bloc Party are still due to continue their joint UK and European tour, beginning in Copenhagen on November 10. The remaining dates include shows in Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Brighton, Sheffield, Dublin and Glasgow, with the tour currently scheduled to end on December 2.
‘This Mirror Weighs A Ton’ was praised by NME in a four-and-a-half-star review as a unified and experimental record that draws together the band’s past, present and future. Frontman Paul Banks previously said its energetic, rock-oriented character came from wanting the group to write loudly together in a room after the isolation of making their previous album, ‘The Other Side Of Make-Believe’.
Banks has also said he is preparing an album with a new band formed with Liars’ Aaron Hemphill in Berlin.
