Actress and former television presenter Janaína Barbosa has died at the age of 48. Presenter Otávio Mesquita, her former husband, confirmed the news on Wednesday, saying he had learned of her death the previous night. The cause has not been disclosed.
Mesquita said he was saddened by the news and noted that the two had remained on respectful terms after their marriage. They wed in 2002 in a ceremony featured on the cover of Caras magazine.
Barbosa became known in the early 2000s as a presenter of RedeTV!’s celebrity show TV Fama, alongside Nelson Rubens. She also acted in the Globo series Casos e Acasos, which aired in 2008.
Her work extended to dance and theater, where she worked as a dancer and producer. She was also a muse for the Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel samba school during Carnival. In recent years, she had been away from the public eye.
Barbosa married businessman Felipe Faria in 2010. The couple had two sons, Bernardo and Frederico. Mesquita said Barbosa and Faria were no longer together. Information about her funeral has not yet been announced.
