Journey’s farewell tour may not mark the band’s immediate end. After years of internal disputes and legal tensions, guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain say their relationship has improved, and strong audience response has prompted them to consider what comes next.
Schon shared a message on the band’s social media saying that completing 110 shows in 2026 and playing two-and-a-half-hour sets had brought the members closer, both musically and personally. He described the tour as evolving from “The Final Frontier” into “The Long Goodbye,” adding that the band would let its connection with fans help guide its next steps.
Cain, who had previously expected to leave after a couple more years, told Ultimate Classic Rock that he began the tour intending to retire but is now unsure. He said the turnout had been overwhelming and that the band would focus on the current tour before taking a rest and deciding what happens next.
Cain also said he and Schon now agree on most things and have chosen to be transparent about their differences. Their relationship spans 45 years, he said, and he did not want the band’s story to end on a sour note.
Journey’s fall tour is scheduled to continue through a November 28 show in the band’s hometown of San Francisco. The group is also booked to perform at the Stagecoach festival in Indio, California, on April 24, 2027.
