The Municipality of Lecce will acquire a collection of memorabilia related to Tito Schipa, the tenor from Salento whose career took him to audiences in America and around the world. The items are intended for a permanent exhibition at the city’s historic museum.
The municipal council approved the purchase after reviewing an appraisal by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape. The collection and associated historical materials were valued at €116,520.
The acquisition is part of the project “Tito Schipa. The Voice of Lecce in the World,” supported by €150,000 in government funding. The municipality will use the funds through the Agency for Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage.
The collection includes personal belongings, stage costumes, photographs, scores and documents, as well as volumes, posters, letters, records, paintings, musical instruments and medals.
