Luca Pincini’s “Au revoir,” a project for cello and electronics with sound direction by Fabio Venturi, will be performed in Rome on November 3. The event, hosted at Sapienza University’s Aula Magna, will open the contemporary music program of the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti.

The performance combines the acoustic sound of the cello with electronics, bringing together works associated with Philip Glass and Ennio Morricone alongside music by Michiru Ōshima, Stefano Mainetti, Pincini and Venturi. The program is designed to connect repertoire familiar to the IUC audience with contributions from composers and sound artists linked to contemporary production.

Pincini has worked for decades as a soloist with Morricone, recording music for major film productions and performing concerts around the world. Morricone dedicated “Monodia per violoncello solo” to him. Pincini has also contributed as a soloist to numerous film soundtracks by other composers and collaborated with several Italian pop artists.

Venturi works in the recording of symphonic and chamber music and in sound direction for concerts and theatrical productions. His credits include recording, mixing and editing the music for three films that won the Academy Award for Best Original Score: “Il Postino,” “Life Is Beautiful” and “The Hateful Eight.” He also received the David di Donatello award for Best Sound for Giuseppe Tornatore’s film “Ennio.”

Venturi teaches music technology at Milan’s Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, where he is also one of the founders of the Milan Laptop Orchestra.
