The theatrical production “Fortunata di Dio - La storia di Natuzza Evolo” received a standing ovation and more than ten minutes of applause at the Politeama Theatre in Catanzaro. The debut in the Calabrian capital drew spectators from across the region and tells the story of Natuzza Evolo, the mystic from Paravati who has been declared a Servant of God by the Catholic Church. Her beatification process is under way.
Written and produced by Ruggero Pegna, the production was directed by Andrea Ortis. Its staging features original music by composer Francesco Perri, moving scenery designed by Lele Moreschi and Filippo Iezzi, and lighting, 3D projections and special effects by Virginio Levrio.
The show has the moral patronage of the Foundation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Refuge of Souls, chaired by Father Pasquale Barone. The foundation built the Villa della Gioia complex in Paravati for sick and elderly people, as well as the sanctuary where Father Michele Cordiano serves as rector. The production depicts an apparition in which the Madonna asked Evolo for the sanctuary; the scene is among the show’s most striking moments.
Actress Annalisa Insardà portrays Evolo as a humble, illiterate mother of five who grew up in extreme poverty. The production recounts her work comforting people and the supernatural phenomena attributed to her. Proceeds from the project will go to the foundation dedicated to her.
