At 11:30 a.m. on October 28, RTL was recording an episode of “Quitte ou double,” its long-running quiz show. Didier, a removals driver from the Doubs region, and Laurent, a medical representative from Rennes, faced general-knowledge questions from host Alex Vizorek, supported by Isabelle and “Master David.”

Contestants begin with €50 and can answer seven questions to try to reach a maximum prize of €3,200. Laurent was eliminated earlier, while Didier advanced further. At the fifth question, however, he hesitated before continuing and ultimately chose to leave the game, encouraged by his partner in the audience.

Didier said his main objective had been to win enough to cover the cost of the train tickets. His decision reflects a broader pattern on the programme: candidates are increasingly opting to protect the money they have already earned instead of taking additional risks. The trend is associated with the pressure created by falling purchasing power in France.
