‘Fjord,’ directed by Cristian Mungiu and winner of the Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, will open the 30th Tertio Millennio Film Fest in Rome. The festival runs from November 18 to 21 at the Cinema Teatro Don Bosco, with the film presented on opening night at 9 p.m.

Mungiu’s new film explores tensions in contemporary society, including the relationship between tradition and change, individual freedom and shared norms. It also considers what it means to live alongside people with different worldviews, themes that connect with the festival’s focus on human, spiritual and social questions through cinema.

The November issue of Rivista del Cinematografo features ‘Fjord’ on its cover and includes an interview with Mungiu. Discussing the film’s concerns, the director said there is no “magic potion” for the problems of an increasingly globalized world, and that people must start by listening to one another and taking individual responsibility.

Mungiu will also feature in ‘Le vie del sacro,’ a photography exhibition at the Cinema Teatro Don Bosco from November 11 to 21. The exhibition traces the festival’s 30-year history through images from films by directors including Aleksandr Sokurov, Abbas Kiarostami, Ermanno Olmi, Bruno Dumont and Alice Rohrwacher. Its selection explores different depictions of the sacred, from faith and ritual to suffering, mercy and conflicts between personal freedom and religious authority.
