Peter Marcias’ documentary Looking for Nivola will be shown in Orani, the Sardinian hometown of artist Costantino Nivola, on Thursday, November 5. The screening follows the film’s appearance at the Rome Film Festival and its selection for the 2026 Nastri d’Argento awards. It will also screen at the Matera Film Festival on November 15.

The film explores Nivola’s life and work through locations, interviews and archival material. It examines his international influence and his sandcasting technique, alongside reflections from relatives, colleagues and scholars. The documentary features an original score by Enzo Favata and was filmed in New York and partly in Orani.

Born in Orani in 1911, Nivola worked in Italy in the 1930s, including as art director for Olivetti, before leaving for New York because of the racial laws. In the United States, he developed artistic and personal ties with figures including Le Corbusier and Jackson Pollock while maintaining a connection to Sardinia.

The Orani event will take place at the former Ex Capannone Val Chisone in Loc. Istolo, with screenings at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The documentary is scheduled to tour Italian cities with Marcias before airing on Sky in 2027. Its Orani screening comes ahead of the November 11 opening at Milan’s Triennale of the exhibition Costantino Nivola, scolpire il vento.
