Nathan Johnson, elected Texas attorney general this week, has a past career in music: he composed scores for 67 episodes of Dragon Ball Z and five films in the franchise. He is set to take office in January 2027.

Johnson described the work on his Facebook page, saying he had composed music for the series and enjoyed the experience. His scores were produced in the 2000s and included the films Dragon Ball Z: The World’s Strongest, The Tree of Might, Broly — Second Coming, Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon.

In a video posted in June, Johnson recalled watching the show with his one-year-old child while working on the music. He said the project gave him a creative outlet and a cultural connection, and that it made him popular with his children’s friends.

Johnson is a veteran litigator and Texas state senator. He earned a physics degree from the University of Arizona and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and took office as a state senator in 2019.
