The NeverEnding Story will return to cinemas in a remastered version for a special event on November 16, 17 and 18. An official trailer has also been released to accompany the new version of the film, which first came out in 1984.

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen and based on Michael Ende’s 1979 novel, the fantasy film follows Bastian, played by Barret Oliver, a lonely boy who discovers a mysterious book in an antiquarian bookshop. As he reads, he enters Fantasia, a kingdom threatened by the Nothing, a force that erases everything in its path.

The kingdom’s fate rests with Atreyu, played by Noah Hathaway, who must find a way to save the Childlike Empress, portrayed by Tami Stronach. During his journey, he encounters memorable creatures including the luckdragon Falkor, the horse Artax and the wolf Gmork. Meanwhile, Bastian becomes increasingly involved in the story he is reading.

The film’s fantastical world was created using animatronic puppets, models and purpose-built sets. Its musical identity also includes “Never Ending Story,” performed by Limahl and composed by Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey. The song has drawn renewed attention in recent years through a scene in Stranger Things.
