Tinashe urged her followers to vote in the Midterm elections on Tuesday, posting on X, “VOTE OR DIE ! LETS GO AMERICA,” alongside 12 blue heart emojis. Some Republican users criticized the post, including its apparent Democratic symbolism, and the singer responded to several of them.
After one user said they would not take part in what they called an “illusion,” Tinashe replied, “Lame !!!!” Another critic questioned whether the blue hearts might alienate her Republican audience. Tinashe answered, “Yall can go,” accompanied by a peace-sign emoji.
A separate user said Republican fans had supported her music and complained that she was telling them to leave. Tinashe replied, “I do not care.”
The singer has previously discussed her political engagement. In a 2020 appearance on Rolling Stone’s Useful Idiots podcast, she spoke about her involvement with Black Lives Matter and said she saw it as her responsibility, as a public figure, to explain her views on issues that mattered to her.
