Bob Dylan met Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Wednesday, November 4, in a private audience ahead of the musician’s scheduled performance at Rome’s Palazzo dello Sport the following day. The concert is part of Dylan’s Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour.

The Vatican shared a photograph of the two men shaking hands. Other images showed them talking at a table and posing together beside a piece of artwork. Vatican News described the meeting as brief, with greetings and a few lighthearted exchanges.

The pope reportedly gave Dylan a rosary. Dylan, in turn, presented Leo XIV with a copy of his memoir, Chronicles: Volume One.

Dylan has recorded 81 entries on the Billboard 200 during his career, including five that reached the top of the chart. He is a 10-time Grammy winner.
