Fashion Frames: Where Style Becomes Cinema has opened at The Museum of Modern Art in Tbilisi, Georgia. The exhibition, conceived and curated by Stefano Dominella, is organised by the Italian Embassy in Tbilisi with the participation of Mirko Tondi, special envoy of Italy’s foreign minister for the promotion of Italian fashion internationally.

The exhibition examines how fashion and cinema shape one another, highlighting the creative relationship between designers, costume makers and actors. Its selection of pieces by Italian fashion houses and designers presents clothing as both craftsmanship and visual storytelling.

One section focuses on the connection between film and fashion, featuring work by names including Annamode Costumes, Modateca Deanna, Valentino, Fernanda Gattinoni, Guillermo Mariotto and Laura Biagiotti. Another looks at the history of Made in Italy through creations by labels such as Gianni Versace, Moschino, Missoni, Gucci and Giorgio Armani.

A third section is dedicated to sustainability, displaying original pieces made from waste materials using upcycling and recycling techniques. The exhibition is also accompanied by authentic fashion sketches dating from the 1950s to the present, drawn from Dominella’s personal historical archive.

Dominella is scheduled to give a masterclass on Made in Italy at the Tbilisi Design Institute on November 6. The session is open to design and fashion students, university students and researchers studying social and cultural change.

Dominella described the exhibition as a tribute to Italian fashion and culture, while Italian Ambassador to Georgia Massimiliano D’Antuono said the embassy wanted to present the show in a country where Italian culture and creativity are widely appreciated.
