My Chemical Romance has scored its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as its 2006 release The Black Parade rises to the top of the chart following a deluxe anniversary reissue. The album jumped from No. 139 to No. 1, marking its first time at the summit after reaching No. 2 during its original release, behind the Hannah Montana soundtrack.

The reissue arrived for the album’s 20th anniversary and includes three new songs and three new live recordings. Billboard’s chart discussion also points to the band’s touring, physical editions and a week with relatively few major new releases as factors that helped drive the album’s return.

The chart achievement comes after years of continued activity and renewed attention for the band. My Chemical Romance’s Long Live the Black Parade tour has featured the album performed in full, helping reaffirm its place in the group’s catalogue and introduce it to younger listeners.

The band’s No. 1 debut also comes amid a broader run of anniversary releases returning older albums to the Billboard 200’s upper ranks. Billboard contributors cited nostalgia, fan demand and collectible physical formats as possible reasons for the wider chart impact, while noting that an anniversary alone does not guarantee a new peak.
