Pixies have released four previously unheard tracks written as the band worked on ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe Le Monde’. The recordings date from 1987 to 1991 and are now available on digital streaming platforms for the first time. They were previously issued as bonus 7-inch singles in limited-edition remastered versions of the two albums.

The collection includes an early Steve Albini version of ‘Dig For Fire’, recorded in late 1987 during the ‘Surfer Rosa’ sessions. The song was later reworked and released on ‘Bossanova’ nearly three years afterward.

‘Punk Loop’ was recorded during the ‘Trompe le Monde’ sessions in 1991 and remained an unreleased jam. Also included is an early version of ‘Brackish Boy’, originally written with Pixies before Black Francis rerecorded it for his 1993 self-titled debut solo album. This version was mastered from the original session tape and released without post-production.

The fourth track, ‘Go Man Go’, was co-written by Black Francis and Kim Deal during the recording sessions for ‘Bossanova’ and The Breeders’ ‘Last Splash’. It did not make the final tracklist of either album, though The Breeders played it live a handful of times in subsequent years. The song later appeared on the 2023 30th-anniversary reissue of ‘Last Splash’.

Pixies have marked their 40th anniversary this year with a UK and European tour over the summer. Guitarist Joey Santiago told NME at Mad Cool Festival that the band were continuing to work on new music. Their latest studio album is 2024’s ‘The Night The Zombies Came’, their first with bassist Emma Richardson. The group are set to tour the US with Queens Of The Stone Age in 2027.
