Russell Brand’s lawyer has told the court there is no evidence that the actor is a “psychopathic rapist,” according to Sky News. Brand denies all seven charges against him, which relate to six women and alleged incidents between 1999 and 2009.

The charges include three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of attempted indecent assault. Brand, a comedian who frequently appeared on British television and acted in several Hollywood films, is on trial over the allegations.

His lawyer, Ian Winter KC, said Brand believed the women involved had consented to the sexual encounters. Winter also said Brand had left personal items, including photographs, with one of the women who made allegations against him, arguing that this made an accusation of rape implausible.

Brand, 51, was previously married to singer Katy Perry. He has said he was devastated after none of his friends agreed to testify in his defense. Following a three-week trial, the parties presented their closing arguments this week.
