Viola come il mare returns for a third season, with Francesca Chillemi reprising her role as journalist Viola Vitale and Argentine actor Rodrigo Guirao Díaz joining the cast as Massimo Paternò, the new head of Palermo’s mobile police unit. The first episode airs on Canale 5 on Wednesday, November 4, in prime time.

Mediaset Infinity will make each episode available free and exclusively ahead of its weekly Wednesday television broadcast. The series is a co-production between RTI and Lux Vide, comprising 12 episodes across six evenings. Alexis Sweet and Laszlo Barbo direct.

Viola works for the Sicilia Webnews newsroom and has synesthesia, a neurological phenomenon that lets her perceive people’s dominant emotions as colors. She uses this ability while investigating cases and helping those involved confront unresolved problems.

Paternò, known as Max, becomes Viola’s new neighbor after she moves into a new apartment. He lives in the flat above hers with his girlfriend, Ginevra. The two initially clash but also work together to solve difficult cases, and their relationship develops into a close friendship. Chillemi described Max as welcoming and non-judgmental, while keeping details of his character under wraps.

The season’s continuing storyline begins with a murder at a wedding reception. During the investigation, Viola meets Alice D’Amario, played by Giulia Ercolini, a young woman whose troubled past and unexpected connection to Viola become central to the case. Viola and Max work to uncover the truth and establish Alice’s innocence.

The Sicilia Webnews team also returns, including editor Leonardo, played by Ninni Bruschetta; director Vita, played by Alice Arcuri; and political journalist Maryam, played by Virginia Diop. Max’s father, public prosecutor Augusto Paternò, is played by Paolo Sassanelli.
