Atalaia Farm will bring its award-winning Tulha cheese to the Folha Gourmet Festival, taking place at Villa-Lobos Park on November 7, 8, 14 and 15. The event will also feature other products from the farm, including cuttable requeijão and Figueira cheese, aged for 120 days.
Tulha is matured for eight to 18 months in a space at the farm that was once used to store coffee. The firm cheese is widely used by chefs in São Paulo and was the first Brazilian dairy product to win a gold medal at the World Cheese Awards, in 2016.
Located in Amparo, in São Paulo state, the century-old farm covers more than 100 hectares and produces a range of dairy products. It began making cheese around 30 years ago, after previously focusing on coffee. Production manager Meiri Cardoso said the farm’s events in the capital feel like “reoccupying a place” tied to the state’s identity through coffee.
The festival’s first edition will bring together 20 bars and restaurants described as among São Paulo’s best, as well as Brazilian artisanal producers. Participating restaurants include Dalva e Dito, Aizomê, Saiko, Veridiana and Ici Bistrô. The lineup also includes Aiô and LosDos, with dishes priced between R$30 and R$50.
Curated by Marília Miragaia, editor of Guia Folha + Comida, with support from content producer Andrea Schwarz, the festival will also feature music presented by Blue Note São Paulo. Headlining performers include André Frateschi, Paula Lima, Wilson Simoninha and Tony Gordon. The program includes food-focused discussions, wine and beer areas, a children’s section and a picnic space.
The festival runs at Parque Villa-Lobos, on Avenida Professor Fonseca Rodrigues, 2,001, in Alto de Pinheiros. Saturday hours are noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday hours are noon to 8 p.m. Tickets start at R$50, with sales through Sympla. The organizers say buyers who purchase now receive two tickets for the price of one and three months of free Folha subscription, including access to Clube Folha Gourmet.
